Being locally based means there will always be someone to follow up on your case, face-to-face.

Dr Benjamin Rahmel

MBBS (QLD), BDSc (QLD), BSc (QLD), FRACDS (OMS)

Dr Benjamin Rahmel is the owner of Townsville Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr Rahmel is also the “Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Practice Representative” on the Mater Hospital’s Medical Advisory & Credentials Committee (MACC).

Dr Benjamin Rahmel completed a Bachelor of Science in 1997 and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2003 both with the University of Queensland. Over the next 4 years he went on to complete basic surgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. This allowed Dr Rahmel to gain experience in a broad range of surgical specialties including: General Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Ear Nose and Throat, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Cardiothoracics, Urology, Paediatrics, and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Having developed an interest in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr Rahmel went on to complete a Bachelor of Dental Science and then his Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons.

As a registered medical and dental specialist, Dr Rahmel is able to provide comprehensive treatment in both simple oral surgical cases, such as wisdom tooth removal and dental implants, as well as complex cases such as trauma, and orthognathic surgery.

When not working, Dr Rahmel can be found running along the strand, climbing castle hill on his road bike or trail riding at Pallarenda. He also manages to find time to spend with his growing young family and their busy social schedule!

Dr Lakshmi Ramalingam

MBBCH (Cardiff), BDS (SA), FDSRCS (London), FRACDS (OMS)

Dr Lakshmi Ramalingam completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Adelaide, SA. Whilst working for a year as a dentist in Hervey Bay she passed the Primary Exam (RACDS) and subsequently headed to the UK where she worked in numerous hospitals as a Maxillofacial Senior House Officer. Here she obtained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons (England) (FDSRCS). Her interest in Maxillofacial Surgery lead her to return to university to complete her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBCh).

Lakshmi returned to Queensland where she completed her specialist training and received her Fellowship in a Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2011 (FRACDS OMS).

When not at work, Lakshmi can be found at Pallarenda with her husband and children as well as her beloved fur babies. Her non-surgical passion is cake decorating, as well as enjoying the great outdoors. She is an avid supporter of the Leukaemia Foundation having shaved her head three times to raise money for the cause.

Dr Marcus Sinanan

BDS (London) MBBS (London) MFDS RCS (Eng) MRCS (Eng) FRCS (OMFS)

Dr Marcus Sinanan grew up in the Caribbean and trained in the UK, having completed his dental degree (BDS) in London in 1997 he then spent a year as a Resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Guys Hospital. Following this post and a subsequent year as a Senior House Officer at the Maxillofacial Unit in East Grinstead, a regional Oral and Maxillofacial hub for the South East of England, he developed a keen interest in the speciality. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) in 2003 and following Resident roles in General Medicine and Surgery started his basic surgical rotation in various surgical specialties including General Surgery and Ear Nose and Throat. On passing the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons exam in 2007 he commenced specialist surgical training, completing his Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2010 and finishing his higher surgical training in 2012. His five years of specialist training were spent in the South East of England where he also worked as a Consultant Specialist before making a move north to Scotland in 2013.

In 2018 Dr Sinanan and his young family made the big move to Townsville, where he also works at the Townsville University Hospital. Dr Sinanan is trained to provide the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, his subspecialty interests include, dentoalveolar surgery, maxillofacial trauma and orthognathic surgery.

You will also find Marcus at Townsville University Hospital (TUH) as an Oral and Maxillofacial Consultant.

When he is not at work, Dr Sinanan enjoys fitness training, running along the Strand and Pallarenda, playing his ukulele and football with his two young sons.

RN Nilanthi Wells

BN (UK), BNSc (TAS)

Nilanthi is an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & healthcare industry.  Skilled in ACLS, HIT, Critical Care Nursing, Acute Care & Healthcare Management, and Pain Management. 

Together with our Doctors & local Townsville Physiotherapists, she will help in alleviating TMJ Pain.
